Check it out, anyone else think that since the PPC 970 seems like it's going into the newest waves of Macs comming out in 2004, that possibly say Mac World NY 2004 we'll see a PPC 405LP in some sort of apple branded PDA? Possibly competeing with Dell and HP's hand helds sporting Pocket PC, I mean apple's already got better hand writing recognition than anyone else in ink well, they could even sync that between the Mac and the PDA. Anyone else think an iNewt might be on the horizon?
IBM processor, Ink well hand writing recognition, up to a gig of flash memory of some sort, some sort of nividea branded GPU and Newt OS X or OS V... one of the two... not sure how high Newton OS or whatever it was called got up, but they could bump it up to V just for the heck of it , build in blue tooth, have a firewire port, possible air port extream or standard air port built in, who knows what apple could do with it.
Possibley make a well designed fold out keyboard so that you could take it to class with you if you're a student encase you want a desktop but also something to write and cary notes with. Build in Phone and MP3 capabilites... it could be quite the lil machine.

hehehe.... found this post via a forum search (some of us do use it)
I just dug out my Newton 2100 this evening... the screen is kind of fubar'd, but sometimes it still tracks ok.
Gotta say that I love my Newton. I'm even thinking of jettisoning my crappy slow combo drive iBook 800 and just taking Newt to the USA with me for e-mail and stuff. Probably not, but I could almost do it if I didn't neew to run some medical software via VPC.
Am I the only one (besides Fran) who longs for the day a replacement for the Newt arrives? I use a Palm every day for medical school, but I hate it. The GUI is not what I would call elegant. It's a pain to program for... ever see a "Hello World" program for a Palm? It's like 40 lines long!!! NewtonScript... ah... what an elegant and beautiful language. I may even start programming the Newt again, just for the beauty of it.
Please Apple, for the love of all that is good and just.... make the device we know you're capable of. Give us a new Newton. I'll buy one. Promise.
<sigh.... back to reality>

I had a Newton 2100... very nice machine, but ever try to fit it in a pocket???
With my Tungsten|T and LauncherX, I'm in handheld computing heaven. The screen is beautiful, the graphics are great, and yeah Palm OS is a little spartan but I find it to be very efficient. Best of all it actually fits in your pocket and its vibrate alarm has saved me quite a few times.
I'd ditch the TT in a second if Apple came out with a PDA though.

My whole reason for wanting a bigger PDA/tablet Mac is for use in medicine.... and yes, we have those big white coats with the big pockets :-)
For general PDA use, I think Palms are fine, though I really do not like the interface much.
For people who need a computer they can hold in their hand while they walk around (like me), we need more than a Palm. We need a new Newton.

I was just thinking this myself. I've been looking and looking for a new PDA and I can't find what I want:
A PDA with the HWR and interface of the Newt 2100 in the size of the Palm TT.
I may still pick up a TT just because it's the best available right now, but I know I wouldn't be happy with it. Anyway, I'm still looking forward to an Apple PDA-ish device. Sooner or later it's gonna happen...

Go for the the TT... I think you'll be quite satisfied. I was skeptical at first too, but I love the damn thing. Add Agendus, Bejeweled, the Splash family products, and the (included) Docs2Go... maybe AeroPlayer or RealOne for Palm, and you've got a more than complete handheld system.
