Anyone here own/use a Canon S9000? Could you please comment on the drivers and photo quality. Any problems on the hardware side? What about the cost of consumables? Do the drivers let you change an empty cartridge in the middle of a print out? Thanx......joe

Dunno about the S9000, but the i950 is coming out in a couple weeks so you may want to wait for that.

I'm actually posting for a friend who's looking for a wide carriage photo printer. The S9000 has some excellent reviews - unfortunately on PC only. Would like to hear from Mac/S9000 owners intead.

Any specs on the i950?.....joe

Ahh, well in that case I'm not sure the i950 will do for him. Ignore my post

You might want to check out computers.com, since they usually mention Mac compatibility in their reviews.

I'm a bit busy at the moment, so I don't have a ton of time. I use the S9000 with my PowerBook, and it works great. Borderless printing, on the other hand, is not supported. Otherwise, it's a great printer with less than perfect support.

Thanx very much for your time. If you get a chance, could you please comment on support problems? Are they driver problems or hardware related? Are you using any add-ons? Does Canon provide an ink level monitor for OSX? Any specific problem areas to look out for?

Again, sincere thanx for your response .....joe

Well, the support problems relate directly to the driver. The printer itself works great, but it is some of the Canon-specific advertised features that don't work right. For example, the ink tank level monitor was added in a recent driver update, but I'm not positive it works as well as the Windows counterpart. Other than that, the things like borderless printing are other issues. Granted, however, for just printing for the sake of printing, the driver and printer work well together and produce very impressive images.

Well, you don't need an ink level monitor. The ink tanks are all transparent (as opposed to HP and Epson tanks). You can directly see how much ink is in them. There is a sensor that can detect ?full', ?low' and ?empty' (it's a light sensor and a prism in the tank ...).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
