Just bought a new desk, it's not too bad except for this black laminate finish. My intellimouse explorer (original version) has a tough time with it, the cursor goes buck wild on the screen. I'm using a mousepad right now which is a little better, but when i get away from the middle of it my mouse shoots across the screen. What is the best solution? Would a newer mouse solve this? Or does anyone have any suggestions for a good optical mouse pad or something i can do to the desk? I would really like to ditch the mouse pad altogether which is why i bought the optical mouse in the first place, but I would really like to just be sure that i can have good control with the mouse.

I use a Logitech optical mouse; taped a sheet of A3 drawing paper to the desk. Works a treat and is cheap, cheerful and renewable.
