Need suggestions for a 17-18 LCD or CRT

I'm looking at buying a home monitor for either a 12 or 15" PowerBook. I'm not sure yet which I am getting and that may determine which monitor I can afford. I need it for design work so color needs to render closely but not perfect. I like the space savings of the LCD, a 19" seems huge in the house, but cost may dictate a CRT. What is a good option for a LCD under $600 or a CRT under $400?

psst, look around on ebay. there are 17" apple studio display lcds going for 600ish. (mine, for instance! but i will let you discover it on its own rather than blatantly spam.) as for other options, i really don't know -- i made the leap from being a sony trinitron loyalist to the apple lcd camp with the 17" and sampled nothing in between.
