Just got my Cinema Display HD 23". One dead pixel (I'll live). But there is this one thing that's disconcerting.

On black backgrounds (e.g., when you're watching a letterboxed DVD) there are four areas (2 on the bottom edge and 2 on the top edge) where there are these arcs of light of different intensities that emanate from the edge and diffuse towards the center of the display. The top left spot and bottom right spot are the most intense, and none of the areas is identical, nor is their any symmetry.

No such anomalies exist on my 22" display, but I know these are different devices, so I thought I'd ask if other 23" CD owners might be able to verify that this is ubiquitous or a specific issue worth taking up with Apple.

They are only apparent on black backgrounds. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I dunno if I'd be okay with any dead pixels, regardles if it's just one. How can anyone expect to pay $2,000 and have to "deal" with something? I want to order one but I'm scared about the dead pixels.

Turns out my monitor is defective. Fortunately, MacMall is going to replace it with a new one.

At the Apple Store/SOHO, I confirmed that none of their 23" models had my anomalies, and, by the way, none of them had dead pixels either.

So, for what it's worth, this is the first LCD monitor I've purchased from Apple (including a 22" Cinema Display and iBook 12") that had dead pixels, and it turns out to be a defective one.

I wouldn't stress out about it too much. And definitely consider buying your monitor from MacMall. They have been extremely professional in their dealings with me.
