Hello, I know that the HP 7550 is not supported in OS 10.2.3 right out of the box, the drivers are required...however once the printer drivers are working and printing properly, can you share the USB printer like you would...an Epson for example (i.e. since Epsons don't need drivers)so i guess my question is..because the driver needs to be installed seperately, can the HP still be shared over the network? sorry if my typing is confusing

The answer to your question is yes. The HP 7550 can be used with a print server that has a USB connection. There are not too many of these devices available but they do exist. HP makes one (175X), IOGear, Hawking and I believe there is one other. You will need to check the prices because they will range from $50 up to about $200.

Punt, hey! thanks for the reply, but i think i was unclear in my first post, i meant, can the 7550 be shared using the built in USB printer sharing utility in the system preferences of 10.2.3?

I am assuming that you mean the sharing withn the Internet/Network preferences. This is the only sharing that I am familiar with for 10.2.3.

By using this panel you are setting the printer up as a shared device. That means you need to leave your computer up and running.

it works with every usb printer, but not with every configuration. don't try to print from 9 on a printer that is hooked to X, you will waste your time trying. You need to have the drivers on every computer, the "host" has to be on, as well as the printer...
so for your question: yes!
