Canon i850: No double-sided or reverse-order printing "a limitation of OS-X"???

I have a pretty new i850 here and it's a darned nice printer except for one thing: the options for printing in reverse order (so the output is in the correct order) and double sided are present in the OS9 driver but not the OSX driver.
I queried Canon and they said "it's a limitation of OSX". Can anyone confirm if this is true? Those options are really useful, and it's just silly if they're actually not supported by the OS.
I was thinking about trying to fire up Gimp-print and see if things are any different there, but they don't list the i850 as supported.
Any comments or suggestions?

Well, if you give it a long hard think, it's just not remotely believable that the OS would make duplexing impossible. The tech support person who told you that was by no means a developer..
But if you want some hard evidence to the contrary:
Hope that's useful.

Thanks for the reply.
Does that work only in conjunction with a build-in duplex unit in the printer, or will it do the print the odd pages/reload/print the even pages routine?
Also, is the "print in reverse order" option available?

I would give a lot for printing in reverse order. Makes my inkjet kinda useless.
Oh, and printing odd and even pages separately. I got addicted to our big bad 32 ppm laser at work (duplexer included, of course).

Yes. I loaned out the duplex unit from my HP930 recently. And with the duplexer removed, 2-sided printing was not available in OSX.

No. And since none of the major print manufacturers support custom print order in OSX, Canon's statement seems reasonable. Hopefully Apple will address this in the near future......joe

Well, that unfortunately seems to answer that. Now at least I will refrain from pursuing the matter further with Canon, and go send OSX feedback to Apple. How silly.
Thanks...

I did after each new version of X was released (been working with it since Public Beta).

Acrobat Reader can do reverse order and even/odd page printing. As a workaround, save as PDF and print from Reader.

I am aware of that. Acrobat Reader is noticably slower (sometimes orders of magnitude) when it comes to printing. I hate the app, by far, it is the worst carbonized software. Doesn't do Apple + H (hide), etc.

That's a useful hint, even if Acrobat Reader does kind of suck in some ways. But I only see the odd/even option, not the reverse order option. Where is it?
But it leaves me confused again, are these features something that are/should be part of the OS or part of the printing implemetation of each app?

Yeah, I never use AR, if possible. But that's why I called it a workaround. Reverse order is in the same place as odd/even; it's in the print dialog box under Acrobat in the drop down menu. There's a check box.
