I am tureen between the Lite-on 52x24x52 (LTR-52246S) and the Teac 48x16x48 (TEACDW548E). The Lite-on sales for about $56 on eBay, and the Teac is $85 from OWC. The Teac is $30 more, but it has an 8BM buffer, the Lite-on only has a 2MB. I want to get a FAST burner that will LAST. I don’t mind spending the extra $30 if the Teac will last longer then the Lite-on.

Will the Teac last longer then the Lite-on and give me better performance, because of the bigger buffer?

The 8 MB buffer on the TEAC drive isn't that big a deal. It was before there was burn proof (and it's variants), but nowdays 2 MB is standand and works well.
If it was me, I'd go with the TEAC, but only because I've been happy with my TEAC CD-RW.

And to help add to the confusion, I will tell you about how happy I have been with my Lite-On unit. The thing is super fast and never misses a beat. Honestly, you will probably be more than happy with either one you get.
It is of great fortune to people in power, that people don't think.

Both are good drives. However, Teac has a better reputation for build quality.

And yes 8 MB cache is relevant, even in the world of burn-proof. It's always best not to have to use burn-proof.

That said I'd probably have bought the Lite-On because it's $30 cheaper.

I've heard very good things about Lite-On's offerings. Unless your computer is slow (in which case buffer underruns are more likely to happen), I'd just get the Lite-On.

P.S. I happen to have a Teac (a 40x12x48) and am very happy with it, I chose it because that's what ClubMac was selling at the time in its FireWire drives.
