I'm just sitting here and my iPods disk is spinning (can hear it) while it's charging up via the firewire cable. I unmounted the iPod too from my desktop so it should only be charging and not even "worrying" about drive access.. What's going on?

As far as I know the disk spins whenever it is plugged into the computer, even if the drive is not mounted. If you charge it with the AC adapter, it doesn't spin.
