Today I saw the new Lacie 3.5" firewire drive in person, and I was very impressed with the design. It is somewhat more expensive that other enclosures, but very stylish and seemed well made. Anyone have any experience actually using one? And does the blue button-thing on the top light up with disk access?

Hey man,
Yes, a friend of mine just got one and I borrowed it for a week. I was VERY impressed with it.
It is very very well built, looks great and yes the light does light up when data moves through the drive.
Best of all it is DEAD quite.
Yes you can get much cheaper drives but they are not built half as well as this one or look as good.
I highly recommend this drive and I am sure you will love it also.

I agree that the googie drives look pretty good too, but it is hard to tell from their site since they only seem to have computer renderings and no real pictures. Of course, I wasn't actually that attracted to the Lacies until I saw them in person. One nice thing about them is they come in a variety of capacities, and are made so you can stand them on their side or stack them one on top of another.

A college to me have 2 of the Googie Sandwich drives and those are same looking as those on the website.
I have not seen real versions about the clamchell, twist and the orbit drives. However if you mail Googie they probably can send over "enviroment"images if you request those!
