Q: How do I do a low-level format of an external FW drive under Jaguar?

I have an external FW drive, (a FireWireDirect 120 GB External Slimline Ultra III) and after about 3 months of use it started acting squirrely and eventually would not mount on the desktop. I sent it back for repair and they returned it, apparently as good as new. Micromat Drive 10 seems to say everything is ok. However, I still don't trust the drive and one thing I'd like to do is a low-level format. But Apple's Disk Utility doesn't seem to allow for this though. (Perhaps it's not neccessary under Jaguar.) Do third party programs perform low-level formats? Why doesn't the Apple software seem to take care of this?

start from an OS 9 cd and use the disk utility to zero all data.
