Firewire 6 Pin to 6 Pin locking computer

	I recently purchased a Mecury on the Go 20GB ext Drive. It has USB and Firewire. My iBook only has USB and the drive works great. On the eMac and iMac the 6 Pin to 6 Pin connection locks both computers. When I connect using a 4 Pin to 6 Pin with power adapter it works great. All Sytems are using 10.1.5 Does anyone have any idea why the 6 to 6 doesn't work? I would love to not need the power adapter especially with the new powerbook that I'll be purchasing when ever it appears.
