Deleted songs in iTunes are still on my iPod

	Stupid question, but I thought iTunes master playlist and the iPod were supposed to stay in sync. If I delete a song in my master playlist (using cmd-click, clear, and choosing 'yes' to do I want to put the file in trash), removes the song from my hard drive, but the songs remain on my iPod. New songs transfer correctly, but old deleted songs remain. Is there some option I am missing here?
