Can someone suggest a good pcmcia card that will work in her laptop so we can both surf at the same time? I realize that 80211.b might be the only choice for her right now, but that is ok with her.
Is there a problem with using a pc card with a mac base station?
Is there a way to prevent neighbors from logging on to our network?

The networking forum is definitely the place to go in the future. But these are easy so I'll answer 'em here:
1) I've had very good luck with Linksys on my Airport network. My wife uses it in her Dell from work (running XP).
2) Nope. As long as it conforms to the 802.11b standard and has drivers for windows, you should be fine.
3) A couple of different ways. You can make it so the Airport can only be accessed by those that know it's exact name (so instead of brodacasting "here I am, here I am" to every schmoe with a wireless card, you have to choose 'Other network' from the Airport menu and type the name of the network to join).
Or you can require a password to join your Airport network.
Or you can restrict access to certain MAC addresses. What is MAC (and it doesn't stand for Macintosh)? Each Ethernet port and wireless card has a specific, unique ID assigned to it. The Airport Admin software allows you to restrict access to your network by specifying what MAC address are allowed to use it.
You can do any combination of the above to keep your network as private as possible (and be sure to turn on WEP!). A determined hacker could most likely get through, but the average joe won't.
