Hello Mac Fans--

I am currently running Mac OS X 10.2.3 on my iBook and I"m looking for a printer.

I was using a Brother HL-1440 with Mac OS 9, but I haven't had a printer for a few months and it was during those months that I switched to Mac OS X.

So I'm looking to buy a laser or ink jet printer that cost under 400, but of course closer to 200 would be ideal.

I see the Brother HL-1440 was down to 200, but I never got a chance to use it with X.

I searched the posts and found many different answers to this question.

I write screenplays so I often print 120 pages in one shot.

I don't need color or photo printing, just a printer that looks good on the paper.

Also I noticed on the HL-1440 that since I guesss the printer got so hot and the paper had so far to travel, that my 120 pages where usually curved and out of shape.

My inkjet never used to do that since I guess the paper had a shorter distance to travel and the printer didn't get as hot.

Sorry for the long post, but I'm just trying to tell you everything I can think of that might lend to better advice.

I've read reviews on Cnet that recommended "Samsung" and "Brother" printers, but what I found from having a "Brother" printer is that the problem with these good cheap printers is that the drivers are always months behind. My brother never seemed to work right.

I had a bad exeprience with an Epson about 3 years ago, I never owned a Canon, but I've loved every HP that I've owned.

so I'm already biased toward HP.

But please share you personal experiences with using a Printer in Jaguar.

I mean there has to be some consensus or list of printers that work on Mac OS X and some that just aren't ready for prime time.

Any advice would be helpful. Model numbers are always fun too.

Well, here's answer to the title of your post. I have no other knowledge of laser printers. I'm a low cost inkjet person myself. But I do prefer Epson for inkjets. I don't think they even make lasers though.

I recommend you consider the HP Laserjet 1200. This printer is rated at 15 pages per minute, 1200 X 1200 dpi output, and uses a toner cartridge rated at 2500 pages.

Get Gimp Print and you can open up the range of printers you can use.

I don't know if that will make things easier or harder.
