I've been trying to get good output on my Epson SC 1160 from Illustrator 10. Mac OS 10.2.3. I've tried both GImp-print 4.2.5 with GhostScript and the
i-ProofX demo. I have a photo and text in the illlustrator document. Both drivers result in VERY dark, contrasty output regardless of paper and resolution settings. There is no shadow detail and the highlights are blown out. G-P allows changing the gamma, but that only seems to worsen the damage to the highlights.

Does anyone know of an alternate driver for the 1160 under Jaguar? Or, has anyone been able to figure out how to control the output from illustrator short of making pdf files...

Thanks,

Deb

hey there-

I have the same printer and I haven't had anything like that in the past. Except when the printer does it's usual Epson tantrum and clogs up. It would seem that your file may be to blame considering that the output is exactly the same with every driver.

I'm not sure what your experience with Illustrator has been in the past but... I 've had bizarre things happen with different file formats that are placed into documents. Some print fine, others don't even print. Raw photoshop files would print the preview (like quark does on ocassion).

I've used Gimp print and had spotty results. I'm actually using the Epson driver now which is supposedly not 10.2 compatible from what I read. It works fine for me even with larger paper sizes.

My suggestion would be to recreate the file or print another document with a placed image and see what happens. Have you run any of the Espon utilities? It's a separate app that comes with the Epson download.
