I have the 22" ad I'm selling it on ebay to get something for it while i can seeing how Apple lowered all the prices. So, I was naturally going to get the 23" but i wanted to know if anyone has it and can comment on it compared to the 22" and the new 20". I read the 23" has a dark image display issue where it's a dark blue rather then black. Nothing major I just wanted to hear from someone who has it.

Hey,
I should be getting a 23 by Friday. I can tell you about it when I get it if you'd like.
I'll be using it with a TiBook 800 DVI.

Lets see, I have a 23", two 22" and my most recent addition a 20". The 20" beats the pants off all the other displays. The 23" > 22" and the 20"> all.
The 22 and 23"ers seem like they have a film over them, the 20" is clear, bright and sharp--I'll be buying two more.
Man, I'm such a geek.

I've had my 23" for a couple of weeks now, and haven't had any trouble with it at all. Not even a bad pixel! I've played around with the 20", and it's a great deal for the money; but the 23" is a better deal in my book...

I think they upgraded them. I bought one yesterday... DAYUM it's bright! I actually turned it down a couple notches as it makes my sony M81 18" look dim on full brightness ;-)

I bought one yesterday. It's really nice. Can't comment on the black issue -- I'm not in prepress so I dunno but black looks pretty black to me (I don't have any construction paper or a pantone book handy to be 100% sure on the difference between midnight blue and black!).
It is BRIGHT. I actually turned mine down a couple clicks.

JayTI,
Is the difference in quality between the 20 and 23 so much that its worth giving up the extra space?
Do you have pictures of your current set-up?
Thanks,
Josh

I'm not sure at this point--still debating. BUT because I already have a 23" and a 20" (as well as a 22") I'll probably just replace the 22" with the 20" and keep the 23" in the middle. Pictures, oh why yes--here:
Hrm, I'll have to take pics with the 20" added, this was from about two weeks ago, but still...

Wow. That's 10K worth of dispays, not counting video cards and DVI to ADC adapters.
That is by far the most pimped home setup I've ever seen. I guess if you've got the money, why not spend it.

Whoa! Insane Setup JayTi!
Can you please post a review of the 23''vs20''. Do you think that the its a good option to drop the 3'' and get the 20''? I was thinking of getting 2 20'' and a new Gfx card or a 23'' for a start and then later get a 20''. Can you please post all your opinions related to this displays. Thanks in Advance!

I have to disagree. I have the 22" and just bought the 23". The 23" is MUCH brighter then the 22". It's aslo a higher contrast, so the difference between the two is huge. I also saw the 20" and while a little brighter, I noticed nothing major between the 20" and the 23". For the money and shear size, the 23" is a no brainer.

By them do you mean the 23"? You think they upgraded the 23"? I hope so, I should be getting mine within a week!! I can't wait anymore! the stupid DVI->ADC adapter has been here for 5 days already.

I'm planning to sell my 22" and get a 23" and perhaps a while from now grab a 20" as a second monitor.
And then the powerbook 17" *DROOL* can't wait for that!

Yes by "them" I mean the 23". There wouldn't be an "upgrade" on the 20" as it's a new product ;-)
I have an Apple store 1/2 mile from my house so I walked over there and carried it home. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but the 23" Cinema Display in the box *is* heavy, even if it's an LCD monitor. Thankfully the soreness has left me now :-D

Better hurry, the longer you wait the less you'll get for your 22". I just sold mine yesterday on ebay and got the 23".

I won't use < > symbols this time--guess they can get confusing?
The 22" so far is the least bright display. The 23"er comes next. It has very good image quality, its rather bright, but its true that black looks like a deep blue (I do web, post production, 3D, FCP 3, After Effects, all the good stuff)
If you have the opportunity to go to an Apple Store, check out the 23" side by side to the 20" You will clearly see a difference. It really does seem like the 23" is covered by a thin piece of syran wrap or something, while the 20" is totally clear, brighter and sharper overall-which I can greatly appreciate.
That help?

easy way to tell the difference between the 20" and the other displays.
Simply look at the pinstripes that span across the desktop bar(make sure it's the default bar/color). Start in the middle and work your way to the edges. The pinstripes won't fade towards the edge on the 20".
Also the 20" is brighter, according to specs and my eyes

Maybe it's a Windows glitch, but I can't seem to see the pics posted by JayTi, and as soon as I click on the link to this thread, no lie, when I try opening ANY OTHER WEBSITES no .jpegs on any sites will load, no matter what...it puts an error in explorer.exe and forces me to reboot if I wanna see images on internet pages. Not only this thread, but also the gallery at www.spymac.com and the gallery at www.macfora.com. It's not just my WinXP machine either, it does the same on a random Win98 machine at school, so something's weird.
Because of this I can't re-enter this thread, but JayTi, could you please PM me if you have any clue what could be causing this? I just find it extremely strange that those 3 places cause this weird error, and I'd really like to see the pics you've posted.

Thanks for the review JayTi,
I've already decided to go first for a 23'' and then later for a 20'' with a Radeon 9700. The 3'' more and the pixel height of the 23'' made me do it. I really need a huge screen as a primary display, since i work with flash and now im doing some long and tiresome translations and i need to work with two sheets of docs in Word. Later ill get the 20'' to back me up on all the webdeveloping and some other projects. I think that the 1920x1200 will suit me really well now. Then later ill go for a 20''... or if apple upgrades the 23'' ill get another!

I ordered my 23" the other day and they say it's backordered, and scheduled to ship on or around the 24th. Such a tease to order it and not get it right away.

Is a full-sized 2-pg spread(11x17") visible on the 20"?
That would at least make it "big enough", sort of...

i've seen the 20" and 23" side by side at compusa and the 20" definitely has better color. that said, we just recieved 2 23" hd displays at work, and they are very very nice in terms of color and the real estate is astounding. i'm going to buy one for home without hesitation. the 20" is too small.

Hey everyone
I just got my 23 today!! It's wonderful!! That is, unless it has to show black. In that case it looks like somebody covered the screen in rainbow glitter (see my post in this section of this forums) I'm going to be calling Apple and hopefully getting a different one sent to me.

I got my 23" in yesterday! No dead pixels or messed up casing. However...
I did a little testing with the button on the ACD. Neither of the buttons does anything when the system is on. However, when I unplug the ADC cable and plug it back in, it works... but only once and just the very first time. After that initial push turns on the system, the button doesn't work anymore. I can repeat this and it always works the first time, but not afterwards. Anyone have any ideas?
I am running a G4 with Mac OS10.24 and I couldn't install the included software because oddly it says I need 10.3 and won't let me install it.
Any ideas, anyone? I know it's such a small thing, but still..... Thanks!
