I use a SSH client (http://my-symbian.com/uiq/applicatio...o=60&faq=6) on the P800 now to run 'tops' on my mac. This is so cool! I have access to my mac through my mobile phone. The P800 is the best buy I've ever made. It's available in stores in Belgium and Germany Monday. We've had it in Sweden for two months. And using the webbrowser Opera I have access to almost any webpage.

With iSync, not yet. Not even in 10.2.4 even though they updated some other bluetooth stuff. I've written the iSync team, but support for P800 should be very obvious for them without me reminding them. How cosy are SE and Apple, really? Just on one keynote or what?

There is OnSync now (http://www.versiontracker.com/morein...093&db=mac), which is "Tested with some Bluetooth Mobile Phones (Sony Ericsson P800,T68i)", but I don't get that to work. I have written the author and he doesn't respond. I haven't found any other P800 owner yet who has gotten it to work. One other owner specifically told me he failed as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this phone is hard to come by right now. T-Mobile and ATT don't list it on their web sites either.

I found a few on eBay going for like $800 each. That's friggin nuts!

It's in every store here. And Monday even in Germany and Belgium. I don't know the release plan in Japan, the USA, South America etc, but I've read (unreliable source) that SE calculates on some sort of "world release" in this month, February.

It is expensive, it's not like an ordinary phone. You download and install (eg. Internet) applications on it. Memory is expandable (currently to 64 MB, to 128 MB in two months). Built-in camera of course. Multi-level 3D action games, you name it. It beats the crap out of all the rest.

I'd expect a dollar price of about $685 + sales tax.

Yep, you'd be right about that. But funny enough, $800 is considered a decent deal for a P800 in the States. Most stores are asking $900-$999 for it.

I've been following the P800 for half a year now. I finally found a live model in Los Angeles 2 days ago.

I held it.
It spoke to me.
It understood me.
We bonded.

And I nearly bought it for $900 with a Bluetooth headset thrown in. But I also have one on order via Sony's website at $650, and the sales people on the phone say it should ship within a couple of weeks. So I held off. Painfully.

What service providers support the P800? I have a treo 300 with Sprint, and I'm able to do unlimited Internet on the phone or attached to my PowerBook for just $10 more per month.

Besides the camera and perhaps the additional storage, I don't think the P800 can do much more than my treo. Not to mention the treo has thousands of Palm apps that run on it, and I think the the treo runs more like 14.4 which is like twice as fast as what I saw for the P800.

I'm not putting the P800 down, just trying to learn more about it. It looks really cool and I'm a gadget junkie, just not sure why the P800 is worth $650-$900 to some people.

How do you type on that thing when doing stuff like email and ssh? I found that I would never do stuff like that on my Samsung I-300 because text entry was too sloppy and slow.

I don't know... I haven't seen a P800 yet, but I just returned my T68i because of lousy signal reception and battery life. All the bells and whistles were kinda cool, but they sure do suck the battery dry (and I turned off everything I could). I also don't like the build quality of SE phones. They feel empty and fragile.
Sorry, I know this is kinda OT, but what the he11.

Re: the Treo. Good phone!

But it doesn't have Bluetooth so you can't use wireless headsets (easily at least), and there will be no easy wireless synching with a Mac (the Treo does have IR, right, but recent Macs don't).

Plus it has a more phone-like form factor.

And the camera and the ability to add external storage are pretty nice features on their own. I plan to use the camera regularly (mostly for shooting off snap shots to friends), and will fill my model with MP3s.

Plus, as a new product, it's gonna cost a lot. Color Treos were pretty pricey when they came out too, right?

You write on the screen with the pen. Or you point to letters on a virtual keyboard (on the screen). A lot of people think the handwriting recognition is really easy and intutive. I'm not so sure I agree. There will always be disagreement about these things. You have to try it out for yourself!

SSHing into my mac on a mobile is among the coolest techie things I've ever tried though. I'm not sure I will use it that much though! :-) It's usually better to use the mac directly! And the P800 SSH app doesn't yet support ctrl and esc, which is kind of a limitation when doing unix! They're working on it though.

Other cool things: tranferring pictures from the P800 via bluetooth to the mac and automatically show them in Preview after transfer, watching live cam streaming from different cities on your phone, logging into Encyclopedia Britannica via the new webbrowser Opera and talking to people via iChat on the P800.

Q: Did you charge you T68i cellphone for atleast 16 hours the first time?

Info: If you cellular/Gsm service provider don´t have good battery saving "programs" in their antennas - the shorter will the battery last!

Yep. I ALWAYS charge new batteries for 12-20 hours before 1st use. The T68i was replacing a Nokia 8390 which I drown (oops). I then exchanged the T68i for a new 8390. I forward all my home calls to my cel, so if I'm on the phone, I'm on my cel. There are still times where I plug it in at night even though the battery meter is completelyh full. This thing lasts for ever.
And since I forward my calls, I can hear a short ring when someone is calling my home number. There are certain rooms here where I don't get great reception, but my Nokia gets every call through. The T68i would sometimes just not ring, but would indicate voice mail later. That sucks.
