Hi,

I want to buy a low end drawing/art tablet for my Powerbook. Any suggestions?

Get the wacom intuos2 A6 tablet. You will not regret the extra pieces of gold for it over a cheapo tablet. If you have to stay on budget, get the low end graphire from wacom.

I use a wacom tablet with my powerbook, and have now parked my mouse and trackball over on a shelf...

Hey Jamez, do you know the differences between the Graphire and Graphire2?

There aren't any differences between the Graphire models. They just look differant, but the levels of sensitivity are the same. The mouse is also different.

Yes, I think the graphire models are round about the same. Probably just a "model 2" to show that it is "updated" If that involves anything more than just the normal colour change...I don't know.

I would get a intuos2, since it does have more than twice the resolution, and twice the pressuresensitivity.
I can guarantee that when you get your tablet, you will want to use it for more than just graphics.
I am jusing it for 3D work in Universe, 2d drafting with vectorworks, browsing, moving files around (a doddle to choose multiple files), etc, etc...

Think the extra money up to a intuos is worth it. Just go for the A6 version, which should start you off with your pen.

The Graphire2 includes Photoshop Elements 1.x
The Intuos2 includes Photoshop Elements 2.0 (low-end models only)
If you want Photoshop Elements, the Intuos2 is a better deal. (And that's if the Graphire2 is on sale, never mind at full price.)

Not fair.

In the US you get Elements 2.0. In Europe it appears that we get 'Painter Classic', whatever that is, with the Intuos2!
