Can't read compact flash media card

I have pictures on a compact flash media card that I can't upload to my mac. I took the pictures with a hp315 digital camera. I can see the photos on the camera, but my mac doesn't recognize the camera. The disk utility program launches when I connect the camera to my mac. Is there anyway to recover the photos or I have lost them for good. Help!

Well if you can't get it to recognize the camera, you can always buy a USB compact flash reader for about $10 and plug the CF card in that, and then plug it into your USB port. It's what I do -- it's typically about 5x faster than going "direct from camera" anyway. Don't delete the photos from the CF card.
