Hi there.

I just purchased a Canon LiDE 30 to use with my eMac 700 Combo. Installation was straightforward and it seems to work well, if a little slow. However, the eMac will not deep sleep on its own. I tried unhooking the scanner and restarting, but that didn't work. The monitor goes dark, but the fan continues to run.

I have seen similar behavior after downloading photos to iPhoto. However, after I disconnect the camera and restart the computer, all is well.

Any thoughts?

I also purchased a Canon LiDE30 and my computer would not sleep automatically either. I also tried disconnecting it to no avail. I figured there must be something running which refuses to sleep. I went to the Login Items Control panel (10.2.4) and noticed 2 items that are related to the scanner: "N067U_button manager" and "N124U_button manager". I went into the Process viewer (in Applications->Utilities) and killed those 2 processes. Then the computer would sleep without problem. ZZZZZ.

I haven't tried to use the scanner after killing the processes. The next step would be to remove these items from the Login Items.

I only plan on occassional use and I certainly don't need these running all the time. Even if these are required for use, I bet you can turn them on when you need them.

Obviously more testing needs to be done.

Those two procs refer to the use of the quick access buttons on the front of the scanner. You only need one of them to be on your system if you use those buttons. Canon's current installer installs the button managers for both the LiDE20 and 30. You should be able to delete one from your system, but I can't remember which one refers to which scanner. If you don't use the buttons, you don't need to run either.
(Here was the thread that discussed this.)

I just wanted to say thanks to you guys. I've just installed the LIDE drivers this weekend. Yesterday I noticed my Mac wasn't a sleep after an hour of no use.

I thought it was either the 10.2.4 update or my RAID card acting up. But thanks to you guys, I know the problem.

Do the buttons on the Cannon LIDE scanners work as expected (e.g. use Mail.app when using the email-button on the scanner)?

I haven't tried any button except the scan button. It works as advertised. Because of the problem noted above, the buttons do not work after you have put your mac to sleep manually--you have to wake it first. No big deal, though.

I completed the fix suggested in the posts above and removed the excess files from the CFMSupport folder. The computer now sleeps properly. Thank you, thank you, thank you, this board is great.

I just installed my new CanoScan LIDE 30. I first installed the "ToolBox" and then the "LIDE 20/30" driver package.

Problem is that the "CanoScan Toolbox" opens on the push of a scanner button but it just says "the scanner plug-in was not found". A quick look in the settings section of "CanoScan Toolbox" reveals that it does not now any scanners (scanner pop-up is emtpy).

The Photoshop plugin was installed properly for "Photoshop Elements 2". I can scan using PE2. But for example "Image Capture" can not find any scanner...

Any ideas? Thank you.

In my Toolbox Plug-Ins folder, there is a file called Scangear CS 7.0X. Is that true for yours? If not, re-install the scanner driver, or copy the plug-in from it's location in the PSE2 folder.

Image Capture doesn't recognize the scanner for me either, so I don't know how to resolve that one.

Image Capture only works with TWAIN drivers. The Canon driver is actually a "plug-in," so it isn't recognized by Image Capture. However, Canon supposedly is working on a TWAIN driver, so scanning from Image Capture might become a reality for Lide owners.

A reinstall did not install the plug-in for the Toolbox. Just for Photoshop Elements 2. I just copied the plugin to the Toolbox "Plug-Ins" folder and now I can scan from the Toolbox . Thank you for your help.

I wish the CanoScan Toolbox applicaton was a little more "OS X like". This is a quick and dirty port of an old software. To choose application for image processing you need to locate the binary within the application package. Not easy for your regular computer user .
