I'm going to turn an old 9500 into a TV, and I'm wondering what I should use for a video card? Its going to run 10.1.5 for the time being on a 250 MHz 604e. My first idea was to flash a PC GeForce 2 card for it, that will give it plenty of video power, but I read on a flashing page that those old cards don't work in older Macs. I don't know what other cards are supported, but I'd rather NOT shell out $125 for a brand new ATi 7000.

Because of great software like this;

http://www.versiontracker.com/morein...168&db=mac

You can install 10.1.5 onto a 604e and have it run. It won't be fast, but its surprising how well it actually works (for that release of OSX).

10.2 doesn't work as far as I can tell with a non-G3 machine, but you CAN run OSX on this 'old world' hardware. If the machine has a G3 upgrade card, then you can get 10.2 onto it. Get a ATi7000 and you can try and push the QuartzeXtreme across your PCI bus.

It doesn't have the Xtreme video by default, but then again those machines have sad video anyhow compared to today's performance.

Suck away because I had 10.1 running on my 9500 as a server with this very card for the longest time, until I recently upgraded to a G3 card so i could run 10.2. So get to sucking...

See my original post, i want something more "thrifty" than a brand new 7000. Plus I don't think quartz extreme would be very functional across a 50 Mhz Bus to a 250 MHz processor.

Its actually a 9500 clone, and its a 225/45 card, but I'm going to OC the bus 5 MHz then it will be a 250/50 card.

Twin Turbo PCI card (2mb) is dollar 9.50
other various PCI cards are 4.50

Give them a call and find out what they have, at least the price range is OK.
Yes I had 10.1 installed on a 7500 with 200 Mhz 604E. With enough RAM it slow but decent like a 100 MHz CPU in OS 8! But the installation took several hours the combination of weak CPU and slow CD player really showed.
Have fun G4ME and be kind, your left nut alredy have a hard time living in such a neighbourhood with an other nut case, an a55hole and a real prick close by.... poor guy
