Does anyone know of a retailer in London who is part of the VAT Refund scheme for overseas tourists ? I'm leaving the country soon and need a new laptop, would love to save myself the 17.5% tax.

Thanks

I always thought that any store would participate in it, assuming you spent a minimum amount.

All I can recommend is calling them up. Micro Anvika are fairly good, and Harrods have a Mac store in the Audio/Visual section. (thinking about it, they must have loads of tourists, so surely they do the VAT back). Problem with Harrods is, they aren't allowed to keep any Mac's in stock (space restrictions) so you will have to go back 24 hours later or call them up in advance. (PS: Harrods isn't anymore expensive than other retailers when it comes to mac's, contrary to popular belief. I actually got a £50 discount on my PowerBook. )

Hope this helps.

Tom.

I am not quite sure about this, so you would have to check it out, but I am pretty sure you can just take your receipt to the customs at Heathrow (or wherever else you are travelling from). They would want to see the computer working as well.
They fill in the papers, and give you tha VAT.

As I said, check this out with HMCustoms before travelling.
John Lewis is a good place for mac. Plus PCworld are now stocking macs.
Good luck!
