This morning my computer was acting strange, it locked up every few seconds. I made fully diagnose on it and finally found out that the dvi to adc adapter was the fault. It was barely three weeks old and it already broke!

The display still works fine but the usb port is not working at all. And if i plug the adapter's usb cable back to my computer, it would lock up my hard drive again. No wonder it gets so hot in the first place after running it for about 15mins.

Counting this along with my ipod, 2 pro mouse, airport base station, one G4 firewire port and G4 internal hard drive. I have send all this back to get replace within a year.

Am i getting unlucky or their qc at fault? Do you think because apple has to stay competitive with the pc world, they have to find some cheap and bad manufacturers?

My MDD dual gig tower is slightly quirky. My two biggest complaints:
1) every so often I have to re-log in, just to make the dropdown menus work, or just to eradicate some other erratic software behavior. Once in a great while I'll have to restart by pressing the power button because the system goes unresponsive.
2) my USB devices seem to get lost every once in a while, forcing me to unplug and plug back in

Somewhat annoying. And I've specifically avoided any software from unreliable sources and software that monkeys around with the finder, or other basic operating system stuff.

There's nothing seriously wrong, just little annoyances.

Yea, after 22 days of uptime, my Logitech Elite Keyboard decided it didn't want to work anymore. Unplugging it didn't help, I had to restart. Sad, but hey, if thats the only problem I have I'll be happy.

I sometimes second guess is it because apple technology is so cutting edge and they are bound to get mulfunctioning?

Look at the ipod and the apple display. The ipod design is so cutting edge, but it is so dumb that you can't replace a battery when it runs out eventually. I know Apple are hardware company and they want you to upgrade, but this is a portable music player we talk about. I have my mini disc player for six years and it is still going strong because it use a recharge or regular double A battery.

And look at the ADC monitor, it is so good that you can use one cable for all power and video signal, but if one of them fail you will get ****.

Firewire, i don't know about the current G4 models, but the one i have, b/w G3 and sawtooth G4, they can never accept two firewire devices running at same time. Last time i was using hollywood dv bridge and ipod at the same time, and my g4' firewire board burned out and so did my hollywood dv bridge.

I guess sometimes in order to use new cutting edge technology we have to sacrifice a little bit of functionality.
