Hey all, I think one of my iPods is dead. It keeps flashing the folder with the exclamation point, and refuses to mount on the desktop. I have tried everything that apple suggests (on the support page) and nothing will get this thing to mount. One time it came up and said I had inserted a disk which os x couldn't recognize, but it wouldn't allow me to format it (the window quickly disappeared). I tried to use the software updater 1.2.1 (whatever is the newest) and it told me an iPod was attached, but not mounted on the desktop, so it seems the machine is seeing the ipod, but won't do anything other than that. Thanks for any help in advance!

I used to have the folder with an exclamation mark problem. A quick format and a software restore fixed my problem.
When I mentioned it to the guy at the Apple Store he said that if it continuously happens then you should get the unit replaced. If you're under warranty you should visit Apples hardware replacement page and get a new one - if not, try opening Disk Utility and doing a scan on it (if it recognizes it) and then try reformating the iPod and reinstalling the software.

I have had it happen too.
I don't want to tell you what happened because it is too depressing.
Hope you're under warranty

I have also had mine do this.
I also was able to reformat it and reload.
For some reason it has been fine since the last time I did this about 5 months ago,but it had happened several time before this.
I am using the latest updater and ITunes 3 so I can use Audible content and everything on the IPod has been better with this combination.

Did you do anything special in order to get your ipod to mount to the desktop ? Mine shows connected, but doesn't mount. ALSO, does anyone happen to know where one can find replacement parts for the ipod ? I read about a place that sold all of the parts seperately, but I never found a link to the page.
Thanks again!
