I am pretty new to scanning. The software I am using for my scanner (the HP psc 2210) gives me a choice of saving as TIFF or JPEG. Which choice is the better one to preserve the most quality? I would also appreciate if any one can give me tips on scanning, or point me to an article or web site on getting the best scans.

TIFF will give the most quality, but is a huge file. If the scanning is just for home use, use JPEG.

Hi Gino,

I am graphic designer, and I have been adviced for years to keep the default settings of my scanners (except if u have a real one on a pro. level then u do use different software and parameters for the job bot it is another world I think for u;o)
Anyway, guat a 1200/1200 scanner, usfull if u want to magnify pictures (then u need more data) and just scan!
Then, THE tool is Photoshop. Use the curves, choose a color channel, U will make miracles!
Another way is to use the levels, it gaves U an approach of the amount of data ur picture have and u can see its limits (burning the whites etc...)
