Wasn't the SonyEriccson P800 presented as an indication on how Apple would sync perfectly with mobile devices late October?
Well I got myself the P800 a few days ago and I love the little phone. I'm connected to the net via it now and receive my .mac emails on it.
But although the bluetooth connection window gives the indication that you can sync your addresses, iSync doesn't see the P800 and cannot sync.
iCal doesn't sync either...
I had to update the info on the P800 via my T39 who does do both things.
Is there any way around this or do we have to wait until Apple adds the P800 to the list of compatible devices?

You can export the Address Book and send it as a file to yout P800, when you open it on the phone the contacts are automatically loaded perfectly.
I have tried various methods to get ICal entries over to the phone, but will no success.
I just hope Apple do add P800 support to iSync.

While that phone has Bluetooth, it does doesn't NOT support SyncML. Therefore, you will be unable to use iSync (which requires both standards).
I'm hoping that Apple releases an update to iSync. And hopefully, in this update, iSync will support protocals other than SyncML. Many bluetooth phone's are on the market. Only a few support both standards that we need.
In the meantime, you can save your addressbook contacts as Vcards. You can then Bluetooth these contacts to your phone. The phone will let you know that you received a business card; click on Accept and you're in business. (it beats typing them all)

iSync uses IrMC standard for the synchronization (like Palm T68, etc.). The P800 is using SyncML, what is more, some kind of modified version, hence it is not compatible with iSync.
If you want sync for your SonyEricsson P800, ask Jonas to enhance his MobileSync software. Here's the forum of MobileSync, you can sign up in web-only mode.

I think the support will come, the phone is hardy in the west so Apple isn't in that big of a hurry.

I can live without iSync support for now, but when it comes, this phone will be unbeatable. I've had it for a few days and love it. There are a few quirky interface issues, but the strengths are amazing (hand writing recognition, Bluetooth, full web page surfing, full email access, Mp3s, small form factor, built in camera, etc., etc.)
Can't wait to get my Bluetooth headset in a few days (HBH-60).

Thanks for the indications etc. I did get my addresses over via Vcards, although some info got loaded wrong. I haven't found a way to get my calender over, only one item a day I can sync with my T39.
The phone is fantastic btw.
I would like to find some handy websites for it.
I installed Opera which works beautifully.
I got the HBH-60 headset too, it broke when I unpacked it... very fragile!

The P800 is using SyncML, what is more, some kind of modified version, hence it is not compatible with iSync.
Jobs touted SyncML as the reason we could now sync phones when he introduced iSync. Thats why Apple is so excited about the T68i. It uses SyncML.
Sony Ericsson > T68i > Features
SyncML
Synchronize T68i with online calendar and contacts, with fast Over-the-Air synchronization.
The SE P800 features SyncML and will work with iSync.

Um, no. Although Jobs specifically referred to SyncML when he introduced iSync, it turns out that iSync does not yet support SyncML. This explains why all the early adopters trying to use iSync with their new P800s have not had much success. The current support for the T68i is specifically built into iSync and is not based on SyncML. Thus, Apple either needs to make iSync fully compatible with SyncML or build in specific support for the P800. Feel free to contact Apple here.

I got it mine in London, with an Orange phone account. Phone was about £325 and the cheapest account is £15 a month.
