Are the Apple 17" TFT displays exactly the same as before the recent prize cut, or are there any changes in them? Does anyone know ?

I've been told that the new one is brighter, but it could just be that the older model sitting near it was about a year and a half old.

I'm pretty sure the new 17's have a new LCD. I have the old 17 and I believe that the view angle used to be 160/160 V/H and now it stands at 170/170. I'm not 100% but I think the fact that Apple has a new supplier of LCD's would necessitate a new panel in even an old model. I loved my 17 before I got the new 20CD and if the new one is any better it should be pretty nice.

I also heard the story about the new one being brighter, but also not sure if it was because of a simple age difference.

Anyway, I ordered a new one today, and getting it tomorow, and I intend to compare it to one "fairly new" old model in my local dealers showroom (i think its about 3 months old). I'll post my comparison later, if anyone would be interested.

Its a good point that the change in supplier would mean some sort of change in quality - I hope it is for the better, now that i picked up a new one
