I'm thinking about getting this Epson scanner to go with my QS 800mhz, and I'm wondering if anyone here has any experince/problems with this scanner? what are your thoughts on this scanner? and possibly suggest other scanners in this price range.

I have the Epson 1660. There are drivers for OS X and it works great. There is only one problem, you'll need a 3rd party program, as the image capture built into os x will not scan negatives for some reason. I have photoshop 7, and as soon as I remove the reflective lid the negative scanner turns right on, and photoshop knows exactly what to do. You can't go wrong with this scanner in my opinion.

what kind of 3rd party software is needed? does it scan or can scan directly from photoshop 7? i'm also considering the canon lide30, any thoughts about that one?

I have a 1660 as well and am very happy with it. Use Photoshop 7 and Epson's Twain 5 (downloadable on their site). The image quality of the scanner is excellent for the price.
