i apologize in advance, but i couldn't find the answer....i have a company car and i switch every 5000 miles. interested in an ipod, but im wondering how to interface the ipod with my car. cant be a hard wired solution, as i switch cars frequently and can't mess around with wiring, etc. truly has to be a portable solution. quality sound is an issue. nothing that sounds like s***. should i stick with cds or do you have a solution? thanks alot, guys

If your cars have cassette decks, do not even consider products like the iTrip (FM Transmitters), Sony and others sell cassette adapters that plug into your iPod and enter through the cassette deck. The quality would be superior to the transmitters.

I've wanted to do the same thing for ages, but couldn't as had a CD player in my car.

Just before the iTrip came out, which I was really looking forward to!, I had to give up my car as I share it with my brother.

Now I just listen to my iPod on the train!

Just as a matter of interest though, does anyone know what the quality is like with the iTrip?

Thanks

Adam

I've not had any experience with the iTrip yet. The Apple Store in town doesn't know when they're getting them in.

I did try and iRock but there was too much interference from competing radio stations. But the iTrip can be tuned to ANY FM frequency, so that may be a moot point (the iRock had a choice of 4, I think).

I currently use a very simple cassette adaptor that works very well.

This probably isn't a reasonable solution for you, but maybe for others.

You could buy a car stereo that has line-in, I know that many do.

So, while we're on the subject. I have a fairly unique solution that might work for some.

I have a Sony Aux box that connects to my Sony head unit (XA-300). It has 2 RCA analog inputs and one USB audio in put as well as an output for headphones.

See the pics below:

i don't know how you built that sub, but pick up some stuffing and stuff the crap out of the box, i will flaten the response curve down and give it a much better sound, less of a one note boom box.

for the ipod problem i would sugest using either the itrip of the irock, so you won't have to deal with the wires running around

I GOT WASTED WITH PHIL SHERRY!!!

Are you talking to me about the sub? It's very tight and not boomy at all. It's sealed for one, which will help support this, but move less air. It's a perfect compliment to the rest of the system.

If you're still talking to me, the cables are not a problem at all and allow me to have the best possible connection.

Sub looks fine to me. JL's work nicely in fairly small sealed enclosures.

Interesting little box, that XA-300.

It's another example of how the auto industry is very slow to react to trends in car audio; every factory system should now have in aux-in plug on the front (I believe there are at least some that do, but very few).

Thanks! My CDX-C910 head unit was bought as soon as it was available to order in late 1996, but I would expect players now to offer that functionality. I'm amazed this unit has USB audio in. I've had it since late 2001.
