basically i want it to sync like a Palm: update newsest items of each device onto other device.

here's what happened: i had been using an iBook as my primary music device and then syncing onto iPod....no problem. then i got a powerbook and ripped some CD's. i plugged iPod into PB, hoping to transfer all iPod (iBook) songs to the new PB. and at the same time, i was hoping that the few new songs on my PB would transfer over to the iPod.

when i attempted to update, i got a warning message that said the "new music library would now default to PB...are you sure...continue?" i was afraid that saying yes would erase iPod and transfer the few new songs from the PB onto it.

what do i do? copy over my iBook music library to the PB via firewire? or can i use the iPod as the transfer mechanism?

thanks.

Maybe something like this would help?

so this is apple's concession to the music industry? don't allow an iPod to transfer out music??

I don't actually have an iPod. I just like reading up about how to use them.

I'm not sure if it's because of the music industry, but most MP3 players don't allow you to copy from the player to the computer. My Rio 600 doesn't (and in the case of the Rio there isn't even a workaround like the iPod.iTunes program).
