Have you tried other USB ports on your machine? That may be the problem.
What surface are you using the mouse on?
You could try trashing the Logitech Control Center then reinstalling it.
I have the same mouse and have not experienced any problems.

...and if that doesn't work, you can always try trashing the LCC driver entirely and give USBO a try. I have an MX700 and MX500 on two different macs and they work great with USBO. Scrolling is faster than LCC, has more tracking tunability, more favorable calibration scheme, and all the buttons can be assigned on a per-application basis.

I'm using a regular mouse pad.
At first I had it plugged into the keyboard...then I read in the troubleshooting that could be the problem so I plugged it into the monitor & it worked fine..til it slept again...then I plugged it into the computer & most of the time it seems to work now....don't know about tomorrow morning...if it does it again I'll try trashing & reinstalling..thanks for your response.

Oh my bad. USBO = USB Overdrive. It's shareware that you can find on versiontracker or from http://www.usboverdrive.com/
It is an excellent piece of software designed to control just about any mouse/gamepad/trackball that can be plugged in via USB with a high degree is customizabilty and best of all, buttons can be assigned tasks on an application-specific basis.

defective mouse...after a sleep the buttons still function but the cursor won't move because the optical sensor light doesn't come on unless you turn it over swear at it and shake it...so I would think it was an actual hardware prob not software.I tried all the trashing & reinstalling of the software & this still happens everytime.....so this is my deduction now..what do you think?
