Well Epson pretty much just told me that the new printer that I bought last year will never have OSX native printer drivers.

I have an Epson 3000 which was purchased under a year ago.

I’m using the Gimp/Cups drivers but the colors are terrible and the fact that I spent $800+ bucks for postscript and can’t use it really sucks.

F*&% them... Man I hate it when people whine but this is messed up.

They where still selling these things new after Jaguar was already out and promising OS X drivers...

Any ideas?

What is Gimp-Print doing to the colors? What is your color management work-flow? How are you selecting profiles? And from what apps?

Gimp Print is an open source printer driver that allows OS X to print to a lot of printers that aren't suported by there companies.

It works pretty well for the bare bones but the color corection just goes out the window.

I know what Gimp-Print is. Describe your color management work-flow. Are you printing from Photoshop?

Maybe you could use a little color management reading. Go here and read as many of the articles as you can. I think you'll find it helpful. Unfortunately, despite what Apple, Epson and Adobe say, color management is not automatic. You may benefit from some custom profiles or a profile editing package. Short of that, you might want to think about selling your 3000 to upgrade to one of the newer models. I can safely say that the Epson 2200 (as well as the 7600 and 9600) is the best digital image printer I have ever used, and I've used a lot. While you could still buy the 3000 new, it is old technology. You could also try doing a versiontracker.com search for print server. There are some s/w print servers out there that may do what you need.

If you are talking about the Espon PM-3000C from Japan, I found drivers from the Epson Japan site that work. You can download the drivers here. That page is in Japanese but either link will give you the 3000 installer package. I have this printer and it works fine for me with these drivers -- even hooked up to an AirPort Extreme BaseStation.

However, after all that... I think you are talking about a different printer. Sorry about that. I'll post anyway... just in case.
