I love the simple design of the current Apple Pro mouse but I could really use a mouse with 2 buttons and a scroll. It would make alot of things much easier for me.

Does anyone think Apple will ever do this?

Apple will never do this, because they want to try and make things as simple as possible for novice users, and believe it or not, someone who is new to computers can get confused by the different buttons and scrolly wheels.

If you want a second button and a scrolly wheel, just buy a third-party one and plug it in. It'll work. It might not be as pretty as the Apple mouse, but it will work the way you want it to.

Now, I suppose you could take issue with the face that Apple calls their one-button mouse the "pro" mouse, when it is clearly designed for computer novices. And it seems silly to have to buy the Pro Mouse with a system even if you never intend to use it. However, every place that sells Macs (including the Apple Store) also sells third-party mice that have what you want, so at least you can put it all on the same order...

I don't think we'll see a 2 button mouse either.
I bought a nice Logitech cordless, optical mouse to replace the good 'ole hockey puck mouse. Very nice mouse.
I think another problem with a scroll wheel and the second button is making the mouse look good.

Apple could make it look good, and they should offer it as an upgrade. Just think of all the not-so-novice users like us that would buy a system (with the standard mouse) and then fork over $50 more with a smile on our face because we want the best 2 button jobbie available.

They're pretty stupid for not doing this...

I agree. They should keep the Apple Pro and also release a 2 button version of the Pro. You can buy which ever one you want. I would pay more for a 2 button Apple mouse.

Most of the 3rd party mice are ugly as hell, I would rather keep my one button Apple mouse.

Hopefully one day Apple wil make one. I think they will.

I bought a Macally iSweetNet, and I think its style complements my iMac nicely. I agree that having to pay extra to replace the mouse isn't great, though.

Perhaps they are trying to get third party a chance. I used to think that i don't need two button mouse but i had a chance to play with it once, and i never want to go back to a one button mouse.

I think the StudioMouse from Kensington is pretty damn good looking for a two button mouse.

THEY ACTUALLY MADE IT MORE COMPLICATED!

I find it a hell lot more easier and functional to have a two botton mouse.

If people get confused over two bottons, they should not be using a computer!!!

The dock is more usuable with a 2 botton mouse, no more command press,

true for Photoshop,
true for games especially,
true for internet browsing, downloading picts,

true for blooming everything.

Its actually more complicating having to hold down command for a second option.

I know apple has the brain power to created a two botton mouse with a scroll wheel, that looks cool and functional, because the price we pay for a one button mouse right now is outrages.

I use a microsoft optical, and put my mercury mouse hanging on my wall for display.

"most poeple don't even know its a mouse."

if you want a 2 button mouse, go buy one. sell your pro mouse on ebay to cover the costs.

it is built into apples GUI standards that a 2 button mouse is deemed unnecessary for optimal usage of the OS.

is it handy for some users? sure.
does a multibutton mouse work fine? sure
is it necessary? nope.

I agree with scaught. The key word above is necessary. I used my iBook with its trackpad (one button) for a couple of months before picking up a Logitech mouse. I could do all I wanted before, and with relative ease. I used control-click sometimes, but I usually managed without that.

I think it's a Windows mentality to have the right-click available to us. It makes it difficult, especially when trying to explain certain things to people like my parents. Who, although I love them, are hardcore novices.

I don't agree . The key word(s) should be ease of use or user experience.

A 2 button mouse was pointless a few years ago under Mac OS 7, 8 or even 9. Today the whole system uses local menus, most of the applications also. A right click is much easier than a control click.

Apple needs a 2 button-mouse + scroll wheel + wirelless. Now
