i realize one can use an albk with lid closed as long as ext monitor and keyboard are set up, but is there anyway to do this w/o ext monitor/keyboard? i want to be able to run itunes with albk closed.

The answer, I believe, is no. But why do you need the lid closed?

I think tomb wants to use it like an iPod and possibly be able to carry the Albook in a bag or case while listening to music while on the move, making it virtually a 40 gig notebook sized iPod.

This was discussed in an earlier thread and it cannot be done. However, there was an idea of sticking something in between the lcd lid and base to prevent the magnet from activating sleep mode but this is not very practical. That's what an iPod is for plus the iPod's batteries will last much longer and not generate any heat.

Even if it were possible, it would be a very bad idea, as you could cause damage to your laptop's hard drive by carrying it around like that when it is running (the ipod's hard disk only spins for a few seconds when loading music into the memory buffer -- the powerbook's would basically be going all the time).

actually i have two very obnoxious cats who picked up right away that the 12 albk makes a wonderful place to lie down--warm, cozy, etc. I use it as my main source of music and have to be viligant. if i could close it, i could put my mouse on the top and then they wont lie on it.

I thought cats liked attacking mice...

To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation.
