Well I decided I couldn't wait any longer for Apple to surprise me. I hopped on eBay, say a good price, and bought a 10GB iPod brand new factory sealed with warranty for the price I would have spent on a 5GB now.
Now I go back to playing the waiting game, but at least I know it's coming. I'm so happy!

Congrats. I am more than happy with my 20 gigger. Two other friends of mine bought the 10 gigger (the sweet spot as far as money is concerned).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I upgraded to a 20 gig a few months ago after just buying a 10 gig model 6 months prior... to this day, I'm still wondering why the hell I ever did that. I still only have 4 gigs worth of music in my iPod, most of which I rarely listen to... and my "old" 10 gigger has yet to be sold.

I would've been fine with just a 5 gig the whole time.

So now a 40 gig version is anticipated?

Who ever thinks they ever need to carry around 40 gigs worth of music is a clinically insane

I have a 10Gb, after you added all the extra accesories it wasn't that much more than a 5Gb.
40Gb is stupid, okay if you want to carry around a ton of porn or somthing. But 40Gb of music, is mad.

Well I currently have about 3GB of music and I intend to have more put on the iPod. However I plan to use it as a backup as well for my documents and maybe movies and apps.

Or I could just put my entire 10GB harddrive on it, which is currently 6.26GB full.

Well, 40GB of music is definitely a lot. Though, on my Mac I have about 38 GB of music.

Currently, I have a 5 GB iPod and it's big enough for how I use it -- I just play "random" all the time and it's all my 4 and 5 star songs.

If I had a 40 GB iPod I'd likely put *all* my music on it, and then I could listen to full albums (and classical music) which would be handy for work sometimes. As is right now I don't have any classical on there because I'm usually on a 3 or 4 hour bike ride when I'm listening -- not when I want classical ;-)

Plus I have stuff like Spanish Language CD's which I could put on the iPod too -- a lot more convenient than schlepping around CD's but I can't slap 'em on the iPod right now as it's too much space.

I've got 15 gigs and it's increased at a rate of about 4 gigs per year...yikes!

I don't have an iPod yet, though, but I may get one if the 40 gig ever comes out

but with 40Gb, i would probably re-rip a lot of my classical selections at a much higher rate (and overall i'd go for higher quality - same music taking up more space).
i think i could fill 40Gb

I think the 40 gigers are using their iPods for files and for other HD use. I sure would (besides using it for the 6GB of music I have...just too small for my poor old 5 GB iPod...

sniff, sniff.

Has anyone got something shipped to them with USPS express mail? My package just left the US yesterday morning. It's going from NY to southern Ontario, does anyone think it'll arrive today?
The guy said 2-3 days on Monday morning.

My apple pal who is a big audio guy is waiting fo rthe 60gb iPod with MPEG-4 support to get better quality files, at higher bitrates, and smaller file size. Makes sense. I have CDs worth of MP3s i could load on there, but I just bought a powerbook 17... the iPod can wait. I will deal with my 64mb (+64mb SM Card) Diamond Rio 500 (ancient to today's standards, but nonetheless a great model--i think the best of the rio clan).

You'll probably be happy when it supports AAC. From what people here say the files size is really small and the sound quality is as good or better.
