Anyone have any advice on this?:

I'm looking to pick up a handheld digital audio recorder to replace my aging cassette unit. I don't care if it has official Mac support or not, but I need it to be able to plug into a USB/Firewire port and allow me to upload onto my computer the audio files that I have recorded.

I'll be using it for interviews, so the microphone does not need to be concert-hall quality. It needs to record at least 120 minutes. If it doubles as a mp3 player, that's wonderful, but not necessary. But it absolutely needs to work with my Mac (Pismo, OS 10.2).

Can anyone recommend any particular brands, units, or retailers? Anything to stay away from? Does anyone else own such a device?

TIA!

Ben

I used to have a nomad II that has a microphone and records using some strange format. iTunes supports playing the files but it didn't seem to convert them properly to aiff or anything else.

You might try the Rio 900 or whatever the current equivalent is.

Waffffffle - Hmm, and only iTunes handles them? I was hoping to be able to use some sort of management software to split the extremely long sound files (say, 60 minute interviews) into smaller sections. I don't think I could do that if I could only use iTunes to read the files. Any other Nomad II users who are using this function?

Here is my thread on it.
Slider - you said in your other thread that you could do just such a thing with the Olympus. Does it come bundled with software for that or do you just use standard audio editing stuff?

You might try the Rio 900 or whatever the current equivalent is.
Anomalous - do you have firsthand experience with the Rio unit?
