I have a MS Intellimouse Optical that works well except for a lag when I move it. It's not as crisp as my Logitech MouseMan Optical which behaves like a corded mouse. With the Logitech as soon as I move it the cursor moves, no delay at all. Unfortunately with the MS mouse it feels a little mushy. Can I do something to make the MS mouse more snappy?

Have you installed Microsoft's intellimouse drivers?
If not, install them and get to the Microsoft Mouse configuration screen from System Preferences. You can change the pointer speed there.

Them's the ones I got. My Logitech just felt crisper. But I love the side buttons on the Intellimouse.

The microsoft mouse seems to have some very aggresive power saving features. The lag is due to it waking up from sleep. I don't think there is anything that can be done about it.

The power-saving feature is the best explanation I've heard yet. Makes perfect sense, and now that I think of it I had to replace the batteries in my beloved Logitech MouseMan Optical almost twice as often. Mystery solved, and many thanks! At least I understand it. A trade-off between snappiness and battery conservation.

The intellimouse drivers are odd, however. For one they only seem to kick in when I log in. Even then about half the time I have to open the preference panel.
Anyone else have this problem?

It could be that your batteries are running low or out.
That mice eats up A LOT of batteries. I am replace batteries on average of 1.5 to 2 weeks.
