Hello,

I posted a while ago about problems with my CD writer. Buffer overrun errors and so forth even at the lowest speed and with supposed built-in "buffer underrun protection".

Well, they seemed to mostly go away, but now that I'm using the writer more frequently, the problems seem to have come back. I now have three Firewire drive (1 Maxtor HD, 1 LaCie HD and 1 CD writer). I purchased the LaCie drive recently.

I am having file corruption issues with both hard drives, there seem to be minute audio "glitches" when I play music with iTunes and any audio CDs I make (using Toast) come out with fair amount of "pops" and "missing audio). I think all these things are related.

See, I am using a PowerMac 8600 with a Macally FireWire/USB PCI card installed. Could it be possible, in your experience that either the card or the PCI bus is not functioning properly and data is not being relayed as it should, causing file corruption, iTunes "audio glitches" and CD errors? And, could I resolve this problem by getting another card?

I'd appreciate any input as to what is causing these problems and if my "theory" is plausible at all.

Thanks.
