I have just taken the leap to OSX wilth a new iMac 17" 1GHz, coming from a trusty PowerComputing PowerWave (upgraded) @ OS 9. So far the system is fantastic. However, I am having some problems integrating some of my peripherals. Namely, a Lexmark Optra S 1250 laser printer and a Umax Astra 1200S scanner. Has anyone out there sucessfully mated the above hardware? I've tried a Belkin USB/Serial adaptor with the printer and an Adaptec SCSI/USB adaptor for the scanner. I can't get either of them to be recognized by the system. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

glaassetcher, instead of messing with USB-SCSI adapters, just buy a new scanner. For one thing, UMAX doesn't support OS X, and besides, you can get a new Epson or Canon scanner with OS X support for the same cost as the adapter, not to mention that they'll work more reliably.

Well, I got an Asante ethernet/appletalk adaptor and have the printer hooked into my ethernet network. Now what? It doesn't show up anywhere in my server network or printer settings. How do I configure this setup?

Thanks

Go to Print Center and add a printer. Select AppleTalk and it should show up below.

I have 600S and if I can not get free software to work with it will rather buy the cheapest Cannon USB printer. For the price of comercial drivers or a SCSI card I get a scanner that take up 1/4 or less of the space of the UMAX and have better resolution as well. If you can not get the scanner to work for free (or with a old computer) give it to Goodwill...
