I just updated to the latest OSX and now my Brother laser printer won't print anymore (HL-1650). Print Center gives no messages when I send a job to the printer. Status says "printing" and above that says "finally, send the print file". The brother won't wake at all. I also have an epson inkjet which works fine. Any suggestions to figure this out?
thanks

Did you try to delete and re-add it to Print Center?

Indeed, try checking if Brother has released a newer driver, as well as deleting the Printer from your printer list and readding it. Does the printer make any way of response, I mean, when it is tuirned off, does it turn itsslef on?

I did try Brother. I tried the latest driver, downloaded, and followed directions. I went to Print Center, deleted the old name, and then tried to add the Brother back on. However, after hitting "add", Brother didn't appear as an add option (USB), just my Epson. The Brother goes to sleep and won't respond at all to any print request. Anything else to try?
thanks

Brother's website states that the Post Script driver is for OS10.2 and they state that problems should be solved by downloading the latest OSX. No luck though!
Are there any 3rd party drivers to try that might run a Brother laser?
thanks

Have you try the following:
1. Hot unplug and then replug your USB
2. Switch-off and then turn the printer back on?
Also, if you want a 3rd party driver, you can try the CUPS driver (I guess you are using OS X 10.2.x, right?)

Ya, this is a communications error. The comp is not seeing the printer. If restarting and hot (and cold) plugging the printer don't work, try a different cable.

Thanks, I didn't think to simply turn the printer off and on!

So, is it working normal now?
I had a Brother HL-1240, and I occasionally have similar problems. Unplug and then replug the USB, re-boot the printer or re-boot the Mac solves the problem 100% of the time!
