When i bought my Quicksilver G4 last year, I didn't think I'd ever need a dialup modem, so I opted out of getting it. Now, I want one to play Warcraft III at school where our network has a restrictive firewall. I didn't think it'd be a problem to find one, but it seems that most of the modems they sell at MacMall and the like have serial interfaces. A few have USB interfaces, but I'm wondering if USB will bottleneck the connection. Can I just buy an internal like the one that would have shipped with it if I'd gotten the OEM modem? Thanks

You can have one ordered through an Apple Service Provider. However, look towards spending $150-$200 for it.

Part Number:

661-2324 Modem, 56K, V.90 w/o RJ11, Internal, US / Asia

Don't worry about a modem bottlenecking the USB connection. USB is 11 Mbit/s, or 11264 Kbit/sec. A 56K modem is 56 Kbit/s. Now, if my numbers are correct, you'd need 201 USB modems to saturate the USB bus. Of course that's all assuming you can reach the maximum theoretical speed that USB offers, which isn't very likely.

I have several extra internal modems, give me your address and I will send you one if you like.
