I'm buying the 1.42 Powermac w/ the 20" Cinema Display and 9700 Pro card ... now I need to consider speakers: I'm looking at Klipsch 5.1, Monsoon MM2000, and Logitech Z-680 ... I'm not really a gamer, but DVDs and music are my interests ... are these speaker systems "Mac friendly"? and would I need special sound cards? and how do they hook up to the Mac (my current speakers are USB attached)?

This recent thread has an excellent discussion, and includes the speakers you are considering.

To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation.

Yep, and also, click that button atop the MacNN Forums page that says "Search" and type "speakers" in the search field; you'll get tons of useful results.

You will need to get the Revolution 7.1 PCI sound card which has OS X drivers. It's about $99 most places.

As for speakers, if you play games and need boomy bass get the Z-680 from Logitech. If you need a good set for music and games, get the Klipsch. The Monsoon MM2000 are not the best, but the new 2.1 system PlanarMedia 14's are great.
