I got the apple cinema 20" display back when it came out in February. It's connected to my BW G3, which has an ATI radeon 7000 installed. the cinema display connects to the ADC to DVI adapter I had to buy, and the adapter connects to the radeon card.

I love the display. Only problem left is that I noticed that neither of the two USB ports on the back of the display work. Just wondered if anybody else had the same problem of non-functioning USB ports on their cinema display, or if the problem lies in one of the other two components.

I have to try out this display on some other g4 powermac tomorrow....
Now I know, and knowing is half the battle!

Not to sound smart... but I am assuming that you are plugging the USB cable from the DVI to ADC adapter into a USB port on your BW G3?

If yes, make sure the USB port on your G3 is working by plugging in and using another USB peripheral. If it works... then it's either the adapter itself or the monitor. Check out the adapter on another monitor at an Apple Store or something. Good luck!

I tried out both components (adapter and monitor) on my friend's 867 mhz G4...they worked fine.

I also heard unconfirmed reports from his bro that non-AGP machines like my BW G3 don't have the functionality to power those two USB ports on the back of the flat panel....I have to check that info in the Apple Knowledge base, but does anybody out there know this for a fact?

Hmmm, that surely doesn't sound right; both USB ports on the back of my 23" HD Display work perfectly well when connected to my 17" PB via a DVI-to-ACD adapter. You may wanna call AppleCare on that one...best of luck w/ it!

^ ahhh, but the powerbook is a g4 based machine, and it's newer? G4 powerbook has AGP based video card?

Yeah...I don't know. I already called apple and they didn't know anything on the first call about this issue. Apple phone support from what I've experienced is about as good as asking your next door neighbor who owns a PC. *sigh*

I have dual 17" Apple Studio Displays connected to dual DVI-to-ADC adapters.
As you probably know, each of these adapters has a USB plug. When I plug
in both, it shorts out or something and the computer immediately shuts off.

I have been able to get it to work with both USB plugs in -- but only temporarily.
When I was moving some cables around, it shut down again. Something is definitely
not right. For now, I am running with just one USB plug plugged into the Mac.
