I've read various reports on the web that the latest version of Palm Desktop allows the Treo 90 to sync via. the USB cable in OS X. Welp... Doesn't work for me. Works via. IR however...
Anyone know of a hack to get this to work?

My Treo works. I just got it, so what I did was download the Treo Firmware Update (or whatever the name) from Handspring, and I installed that. Then I installed Palm Desktop 4.0 from Handspring. Then I installed the iSync conduit. Now I am able to sync from my Treo to iSync just fine, I don't actually use Palm Desktop.

Make sure you delete everything Palm on your computer and download the Palm Desktop version from the Handsrping website.

I'm in the process of getting a Treo 180g for the forst time, so I'm not quite sure I understand. So, you say I need to get Palm Desktop from Handspring and then install iSync. Right? But after that, I actually use iSync and don't have to use Palm Desktop anymore?
Why then is the Palm Desktop required? Does it install some necessary kernel extensions or something? Does this have any impact on the Mac's performance? (I have a 1GHz iMac)

You need to instal the Palm Desktop to get the Hotsync part installed. iSync relies on the Palm Hotsync.
Once installed, you only use iCal/Addressbook. Hotsync and iSync launch automatically when you press the Hotsync button.
No performance impact, don't worry.
The only drawback: you cannot print enveloppes or mailing labels from AddressBook, a big oversight from Apple. There are some third party shareware available to do that but none as handy as the built in Palm Desktop... Go figure.

Thanks for the reply.
Now, if I only want to do backups of the Treo and install software would I need iSync at all? Or is iSync just for iCal and AddressBook?

iSync is just for iCal and AddressBook.
Hotsync takes care of all the rest.
