Just curious as I have this bluetooth powerbook now (12") and I'll be getting a Nokia 3650 phone that has bluetooth tomorrow. Can I type up an SMS on my laptop somehow and send it as my laptop is connected to my phone via bluetooth?

Yes. This is done using Address Book. It works quite well.

Mike, when you get your 3650, would you mind writing a review of your experiences with it in relation to your mac? I'm thinking about getting one and I'm trying to decide whether to get the 3650 or wait for the Sony Ericsson T610.
Thanks
BTW: I asked about the 3650 here before, this is the thread, it has some helpful info.

When you pair your bluetooth phone with your PB, that connection will be accessed by your programs (such as AddressBook). When your phone is within range, you can simply click on a small icon within your addressbook viewing pane.. that will "turn on the bluetooth connection".
Now, when you get calls on your phone, it will appear on your PB with options (answer, voicemail). You will still ue your phone to talk but cool functionality.. and as previously mentioned, SMS can be done with your phone in your pocket.. all via your PB!

Okay, I can send files to my phone and as many contacts as I wish over bluetooth.. That much I figured out.. But I know iSync doesn't work because of some syncml thing and I can't find the application for it for the nokia phones.
SMS, I'm confused on how to do that. I have the powerbook and 3650 paired but the SMS and dial aspect in address book is greyed out.

There should be a small icon on your address book view (not on the top title bar) but actually on the address book pane.
That icon is the BlueTooth symbol and it should be greyed out. Now, click on that icon and a series of 3 small dots should pulsate left to right as it connects to your phone.
Now, that greyed out icon should become a solid blue.. your connected
Hope this helps..

Temporary fix... Program called LogoSender (got it from version tracker) can send SMS's through the phone fine. Has some other features too but haven't really looked into it yet. But this comes at a price of course $19. (oh yeah, it's done over bluetooth if anyone didn't infer that from the rest of these posts..)
Any suggestions for getting the FREE apple one to work (address book).

Okay, I'm replying to myself again. 10.2.5 now supports the 3650 in address book and it works properly now. Good thing as I don't want to pay for what I could get for free. except for syncing, 3650 is awesome!! My address's can be sent over bluetooth and calendar events can be beamed from my palm to the unit. I can now SMS too and get my caller ID on my computer screen!

I just purchased the Nokia 3650 and love it! I was wondering, though, if it were possible to have the address book automatically connect via with the phone when it found it in range. Anyone figured out how to do this?
Also, after connecting to the phone in Address Book (using the bluetooth button), does anyone else find that the connection disappears after a certain period of time? I am using Airport, too, so I was wondering if the interference (if any) was killing it...

Probably. However are you sure your PowerBook does have a infrared port? PowerBook G4 no longer has infrared port...
Your worst case scenario would be just buy a cheap $40 USB Bluetooth adapter, and then your Nokia 3650 is connected to your PowerBook!

I think it's just the timeout after a period of inactivity.
