yep, for a six gigger and I am looking for a combo. The best prices I have seen are b/w 80-70 dollars. What is this Oxford 911 firewire bridge set? Do I want that, or should I avoid it? Mostly looking for combe, compact, price and if possible firewire powered. Thanks.

The Oxford 911 bridge is the best one out there, so don't get anything else.
If it's a 2.5" Hard Drive, I'd heartily reccomend the Sarotech Cutie. I've had two of them so far (left the first on the train) and they've been great. You can get Firwire, USB2.0 or a Combo enclosure. If you use Firewire 6pin to 6pin cables, then it is bus powered. Should be the same with USB 2.0, too.
Most USB 1.1 connections I've tried haven't supplied enough bus power, but the Cutie comes with another cable to deal with that (you plug it into a second USB slot, and with both slots powering the device it will work).
Sarotech make great products - I'm also using their Flex CD case for my Ricoh DVD burner and it works great!
Their site is simply www.sarotech.com.
Enjoy.

Thanks, but it's a 3.5", sorry I didn't mention it.
Edit: And thanks for the info on the Oxford 911, it helps make the decision.

I just ordered This Enclosure
It has USB 2.0/FW (Oxford 911), looks better than a number of enclosures I've seen, and costs < $58 (which is CHEAP for dual - interface ... see the prices mentioned in above posts and the prices you've found). Its supposed to arrive next Monday so if you havent' bought one by then I'll let you know how it goes.
Tip: Firewire bus powered externals are typically found in the small cases for 2.5" notebook drives. A few of the 3.5 enclosures claim that they can be bus powered .. but only by powermacs. If you connect a bus powered device to an iMac or laptop you run the real risk of burning out your firewire port (I know this for a fact .. burnt out my FW on an older iMac DV by attempting to use a "bus powered" CDRW from Formac. Several months later, Formac updated their site to suggest that you use the external power when connected to iMacs or laptops). Don't risk f*cking-up your FW port with a bus powered 3.5 !!

Thanks all, really nice price there above, if I had seen it yesterday I would have jumped on it. I did how ever find a drive that I think I will be happy with this one I like the aluminum, kinda hoping it will dissipate the heat if its an issue. I wanted to use this thing for a transfer for larger files at school which are all PC's. Looks like it's a little more involved than I thought.
Thanks for the tip about the firewire port, I have a PowerMac fortunately
