so I have eye-tv and its great but I want to be able to edit my movies in quicktime pro not just eye-tv's software. is there any way I can do this? sorry if this has been asked before but I didn't find it in a quick search of the forum. the files all open in quicktime I just can't edit them.

Once you save them out of EyeTV, you will not be able to edit them easily. It requires demuxing the file (separating audio & video streams), converting them to another format, and combining the resulting files in QuickTime player (maybe QT Pro). Then, you'll be able to edit them using QuickTime via a GUI similar to the one on EyeTV, albeit smaller.

If it's simpler than that, please, someone post the process.

Thanks for the reply. I think I understand the process, is there any way to do it using only OS X apps. I have Quicktime Pro I just need to be pointed in the right direction of the rest of the apps. anyone with any experience please post.

EyeTV is OS X native, and IMHO they did a pretty good job with the editing interface. QT treats muxed mpeg1 as a delivery format, not for editing. The fact that ElGato made it easily editable was a slick trick, actually.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? In other words, besides for the joy of using QT Pro, WHY do you want to use this tool over ElGato's?
OS X: Where software installation doesn't require wizards with shields.

I want to be able to extract the audio track so I can burn it separately (listen to it in a cd player when I'm not near a comp.) yes I know I'm wierd but I don't like listening to just the soundtrack from some movies I want the voices too.
also I want more control like adding clips in and easier cut and paste (eye-tv won't let me paste clips in) change to A/V input is command-v and paste (if it would ever let you) is also command-v.
also I want to change the quality to reduce file size if the movie is intended for internet streaming.
also its easier to split a file in 2 with quicktime to fit it onto CD.
I can't even copy in eye-tv and then paste the file in QT.

you can take out the audio track rather easily using bbdemux:

In regards to re-encoding the mpeg-1 stream, that will give you pretty horrible results. Compressing and already compressed video file will not be pretty.
