I have an hp Photosmart 7550 printer, and it will only print if the program "HP Communications" is running. I've been told this program is needed to access the flash / MMC / sd card reader.

So this being the case, is there a program which will allow me to mount cards which are inserted in this printer? It seems silly to have to pop my memory stick in the printer to print one or two pictures directly and then remove the card and insert it in a memory stick reader to download the pictures to my PowerMac. Not to mention it would save me from having to buy a 6 in one reader so I can access my SD and CF cards.

Thanks in advance for any help

You only need the communications manager running if you are going to upload the photo's to the computer. You don't need anything else if you want to print the pictures from your SD card. The pictures will print just fine with the printer acting as a stand alone device.

OK, then why can't I print if I kill the HP Cokmmunications process???

Print center gets stuck on "opening printer connection" and finally just stops attempting to print.

Also, your post implies I can get data (pictures) from an SD card to my powermac. How do I do this?

You do not need your computer to print from your SD card. Trust me on this I'm an HP rep and I demo these products all the time without them being connected to a computer. If you insert your SD card in the appropriate slot then the pictures should show up on the LCD screen. You should be able to print directly from that card simply by selecting the photo from the front panel of the printer. The communications manager exist because the printer will also allow you to save the photo to your G4 by pressing the save button on the front panel.

I think we are getting off track here. The very first sentance of my original post says I have an hp Photosmart 7550 printer, and it will only print if the program "HP Communications" is running.

You said "You only need the communications manager running if you are going to upload the photo's to the computer."

So I replied "OK, then why can't I print if I kill the HP Cokmmunications process??? Print center gets stuck on "opening printer connection" and finally just stops attempting to print."

This has NOTHING to do with printing from the SD card. I want to know why I need HP Communications to be running for standard printing. You know, type a letter in Word and hit command-p. Several months ago you told me that HP Communications was only used to talk to the memory card slots, so I want to know why I can't do regular Mac printing without this program running.

Hopefully this clears up the miscommunication.

Can anyone access their SD cards running OSX? In OS9, if I plug in an SD card into my 7550, it shows up on the desktop as a disk. But in OSX, it will not show up.

Anyone!? Please help. This is fairly obnoxious, having to reboot all the time.
