I have just taken delivery of a 17" Apple Studio Display. It is very nice, apart from one problem. When waking the display from sleep (just the display, not the machine) the backlight flickers. Similarly, changing resolutions (which causes the backlight to turn off momentarily) also causes the backlight to flicker.

The flicker goes away after about 10 seconds, but I am sure this isn't normal. I have phoned Apple, and have the problem logged in their system, but they are saying that this is "within specification". I have used a variety of Apple LCDs, and none of them show this behaviour, so I'm a little annoyed that Apple are fobbing me of with this response.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Pretty sure this isn't normal...

All the best

My 17" Studio Display does the same thing. All the research I did when I first got it indicated that this was normal behavior, or at least happening to everyone. How often do you switch resolutions or wake the computer from sleep? I just learned to ignore it.

Very rarely do I change resolutions, but I often let the display go to sleep. I find little things like this really annoying!

Mine does this too.

It goes away after 7-10 seconds. I find it slightly worrisome, but I've just learned to ignore it.

Sawtooth 450 --> RAGE 128 --> DVIator --> 17" Studio Display, btw.

[edit: "subject" doesn't behave the way I expected it to....]

The local apple store had one, and their's does it too. Seems like normal behaviour. Normal behaviour that i have never seen before on an LCD.
